Senior Backend Engineer (Python/Django)

About the Role
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and maintaining the backend systems that power our financial products. You'll work within a mature Django architecture, owning critical domains such as:
Wallets & User Balances
Payment Processing
Ledger Systems
Card Issuing
Business Accounts
Financial Integrations

Beyond feature development, you'll help shape engineering standards, improve system architecture, mentor other engineers, and ensure our platform remains scalable, secure, and highly reliable.

Key Responsibilities
Backend Architecture
Design, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful APIs using Django REST Framework.
Build versioned APIs with clean architecture and separation of concerns.
Design services that are maintainable, testable, and scalable.
Domain-Driven Development
Develop and maintain isolated financial domains within our Django application.
Build reusable service layers and shared utilities while keeping business logic encapsulated.
Maintain strict financial integrity across all services.
Third-Party Integrations
Develop and maintain integrations with:
Payment gateways
Banking partners
Identity verification providers
Communication platforms
Card issuing providers
Ensure all external requests and responses are mapped through dedicated integration layers using Python dataclasses.
Performance & Scalability
Optimize PostgreSQL queries.
Improve database performance.
Design safe migration strategies.
Build scalable asynchronous workflows using Celery and Redis.
Improve overall API performance and reliability.
Testing & Quality
Champion engineering excellence by:
Writing comprehensive unit and integration tests.
Maintaining high code coverage.

Using:
Django Test Client

Conduct code reviews and enforce engineering best practices.
Architecture Evolution
Help modernize our platform by:
Moving business logic into explicit service layers.
Reducing framework coupling.
Improving maintainability.
Enforcing strong domain boundaries.

Work closely with infrastructure using:
Docker
Docker Compose
AWS (S3, SES)
Boto3
Firebase
Assist with deployment improvements and secure configuration management.


Requirements
Required Experience
5+ years of professional backend development experience.
Expert-level Python (3.12+).
Strong Django and Django REST Framework experience.
Experience designing large production APIs.
Strong PostgreSQL knowledge.
Advanced Django ORM experience.
Database optimization and migration experience.
Experience building asynchronous systems with Celery and Redis.
Experience integrating third-party APIs.
Strong understanding of REST API architecture.
Experience writing automated tests using:
Django Test Client

Hands-on Docker experience.
Experience working with AWS services including S3 and SES.
Experience using Firebase.
Strong understanding of software architecture, clean code, and design patterns.
